Everything Everywhere All at Once was the first movie of 2023, and the first movie that we've ever watched as a family. Boy, I love it as it can be watched lightly or deeply. The movie featured Evelyn an archetype Asian mother who kept herself busy and away from emotions. 20 minutes through, she realised that she's special and is able to traverse to many universes. According to quantum physics, this might be possible or even probable. My favourite scene (which was probably inspired by Sisyphus) is Evelyn and Joy as rocks next to each other in the dessert of nothingness laughing at the absurdity together.
Even within this one universe alone we struggle with the absurdity of life. With life so small and fleeting, why exist at all ? These are the same question Camus and Sartre ponder upon too. Waymond suggested optimism and being kind, Evelyn suggested being here - out of all the places with the loved one. I think it's a beautiful suggestions, and it reminded me of Camus's words.
"The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.”
And for this, I give Everything Everywhere All at Once 4.5/5 stars.
